Why More Colorado Families Are Prioritizing Nervous System Health

June 24, 2026 by Dr. Elise Rigney

Health conversations have changed dramatically over the last few years.

More parents are looking beyond simply reacting to symptoms and are focusing on how their families function, adapt, and thrive.

One area receiving increased attention is nervous system health.

Your nervous system helps regulate:

  • sleep
  • focus
  • mood
  • digestion
  • movement
  • stress response

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the nervous system controls and coordinates nearly every activity in the body.

When the nervous system isn’t functioning efficiently, it can affect how both children and adults experience everyday life.

This shift is one reason more families across Fort Collins, Golden, Cherry Hills Village, and the Denver area are exploring proactive approaches to health and wellness.

Many families are prioritizing:

  • quality sleep
  • outdoor activity
  • healthy routines
  • stress management
  • nervous system support

While every family is different, one thing remains consistent: healthy habits built early often create lasting benefits over time.

If you’re interested in helping your family function at its highest potential, understanding nervous system health is a great place to start.

Staying Active This Summer: Chiropractic & SoftWave Recovery Tips

June 17, 2026 by Dr. Elise Rigney

Colorado summers are built for activity.

From hiking trails in Golden to paddleboarding near Fort Collins and exploring parks throughout Denver, many people become significantly more active during June, July, and August.

While movement is one of the best things you can do for your health, recovery matters too.

Without proper recovery, people often experience:

  • lingering soreness
  • reduced mobility
  • fatigue
  • recurring injuries

According to the CDC, regular physical activity provides substantial health benefits, but recovery and injury prevention are equally important.

This is where chiropractic care and SoftWave therapy can complement an active lifestyle.

Chiropractic care focuses on helping the body move and function properly through improved spinal and nervous system health.

SoftWave therapy uses electrohydraulic shockwave technology designed to support circulation, tissue healing, and the body’s natural recovery processes.

Together, these approaches may help active individuals:

  • recover more efficiently
  • maintain mobility
  • support overall function

Whether you’re training for an event, spending weekends on the trails, or simply enjoying everything Colorado has to offer, investing in recovery can help you stay active all season long.

Can Chiropractic Help With Summer Headaches?

June 10, 2026 by Dr. Elise Rigney

Summer is one of the best times to enjoy Colorado, but for many people it also means dealing with more headaches.

Long days outside, increased activity, dehydration, travel, and changes in routine can all contribute to headaches becoming more frequent.

Common headache triggers include:

  • dehydration
  • stress
  • poor sleep
  • heat exposure
  • muscle tension

What many people don’t realize is that tension in the neck and upper back can also contribute to headache symptoms.

When the muscles surrounding the spine become tight or restricted, it can place additional stress on the nervous system and surrounding structures.

This is one reason many people seek chiropractic care when experiencing:

  • tension headaches
  • headaches related to posture
  • neck-related discomfort

The goal isn’t simply symptom relief—it’s helping the body function more efficiently.

Whether you’re spending weekends hiking near Golden, exploring Fort Collins, or enjoying summer events around Denver, staying hydrated, getting quality sleep, and supporting your nervous system can all play a role in reducing headache frequency.

If headaches are becoming a regular part of your summer, it may be worth looking beyond temporary solutions and identifying the underlying cause.

How to Know If You Need a Chiropractor (Signs Your Body Is Stressed)

May 10, 2026 by Dr. Elise Rigney

Most people wait until something hurts before they take action.

But pain is usually the last signal your body gives.

Earlier signs often look like headaches, poor sleep, tension, low energy, or feeling constantly on edge.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, chronic stress impacts nearly every system in the body.

When your nervous system is overwhelmed, your body can’t regulate or recover properly.

That’s when small issues start to build.

If you’ve been noticing these signs, it may be time to look deeper.

We help patients across Fort Collins, Golden, and the Denver area understand what their body is telling them and what to do about it.

Can a Chiropractor Help with Anxiety? (Fort Collins Guide to Nervous System Regulation)

April 8, 2026 by Dr. Elise Rigney

If you’ve been feeling constantly anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in “fight or flight,” you’re not alone — and it may not just be in your head.

Your nervous system plays a huge role in how you experience stress.

When it becomes dysregulated, your body can stay in a constant state of alert — even when there’s no real danger.

Common signs of nervous system dysregulation:

  • Anxiety or panic feelings
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Digestive issues
  • Brain fog
  • Constant tension

According to the Cleveland Clinic, chronic stress directly impacts both physical and mental health.

So where does chiropractic come in?

Chiropractic care focuses on restoring proper communication between the brain and body.

When your spine and nervous system are functioning optimally, your body can:

  • shift out of stress mode
  • regulate more effectively
  • recover faster

This isn’t about “cracking backs” — it’s about helping your body feel safe again.

In Fort Collins, we’re seeing more patients struggling with:

  • burnout
  • anxiety
  • nervous system overload

And many of them don’t realize their body is stuck in a stress loop.

What to do next

If you’ve been feeling “on edge” and can’t figure out why, your nervous system may need support.

We offer a free nervous system assessment in Fort Collins to help you understand what’s going on and what your next step should be.

PATIENT SPOTLIGHT: SUSTAINED WELLNESS AFTER AUTO ACCIDENT

May 12, 2017 by Impact Chiropractic

Amber Ellinger has been a patient of Impact Chiropractic since August of 2012.  She intially came for pain after being in a motor vehicle accident, but since then has continued care for prevention and wellness.  The Ellinger family lives in Red Feather Lakes, but travel down to Fort Collins for regular chiropractic care.

car accident chiropractor Amber has had over 200 adjustments in the last 5 years, talk about dedication to your health! She is a strong proponent for natural health care and letting the body heal itself.  She is a wellness consultant and advocate for doTerra essential oils, and uses them for all aspects of health.  If you have any questions about how or what to use essential oils for, Amber is your gal.  We love seeing her family and it is an honor to take care of such a health conscious woman.

How long have you been a patient at Impact Chiropractic?
I have been a patient at Impact Chiropractic since I believe August of 2012.  My whole family initially became patients because we had been in a car accident on I-25. However, we quickly realized how important chiropractic care had become to our well-beings and decided to be longtime patients!

What has changed since you started chiropractic care?
Since starting care at Impact I have noticed a great improvement in my overall health.  I used to suffer from frequent headaches and sinus issues. Since starting at Impact, and taking a more proactive role in my own preventative health care routine (seeing the team at Impact regularly, eating a more healthy diet and using essential oils), I feel amazing.

Don’t get me wrong, I still have issues, but the frequency and duration of illnesses, the stiffness in my body, and my mood have all greatly improved. I don’t have to see other doctors but maybe 1-2 times per year mostly for routine screenings and exams. It’s nice to have a caring and capable chiropractic team to help support me in a holistic and proactive way.

chiropractic care after a car accident What do you like about your chiropractic care?
My favorite thing about Impact is, of course, the amazing way I feel after being adjusted. Equally though, I love the friendly and caring staff. I truly know that Dr. Elise and Dr. Lara, as well as the staff, care about me personally. I consider them my friends and not just my chiropractors. The level of high-quality care, as well as their personal relationship with me makes me so grateful to have run across Dr. Elise at a vendor show all those years ago.

Do you have any advice for a new patient, or someone thinking about chiropractic care?
My advice for a new patient would be to come in and meet the Dr.’s and experience all of the amazing things this clinic has to offer. Super friendly staff, kid friendly office, affordable top notch care from well trained and continuously improving chiropractors make this the place to go!
