Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when there is pressure or compression on your median nerve. "Carpal tunnel release" is one of the most common surgical procedures in the United States, and although symptoms may be relieved immediately after surgery, full recovery from carpal tunnel surgery can take months. Some patients may have infection, permanent nerve damage, stiffness, and pain at the scar. Occasionally the wrist loses strength because the carpal ligament is cut and patients will need to make changes to their daily activities for the rest of their lives. An alternative treatment is (you guessed it!) chiropractic, freeing up compression on the nerve at the wrist, or sometimes where the median nerve comes off of the spinal cord at the brachial plexus (C5 to T1). A second opinion never hurt anyone, let's see if we can correct your carpal tunnel syndrome without the need for drugs and surgery!
